A long-planned health and wellness facility at Fayette County's Pinewood Forest mixed-use development has opened.

The Piedmont Wellness Center at Pinewood Forest is a 60,000-square-foot, two-story building that will include  aquatic classes, physical therapy, aerial yoga and high-intensity interval training in and out of a pool.

“It has been very encouraging to see the response to what we consider a gold standard facility focused on health and wellness,” Stephen Porter, Piedmont Fayette Hospital CEO, said in a statement.

"The Piedmont Wellness Center at Pinewood Forest offers clinical integration which allows physical therapists and exercise physiologists to share common space," he said. "For example, in one room, there might be a dozen people taking a kickboxing class, while another individual is meeting with a therapist to rehab an injury."

The wellness facility is one of several projects under development at the 235-acre Pinewood Forest site. A luxury movie theater, boutique hotel and four-level retail and office complex also are expected at the development.
