One person was killed and one injured in a traffic accident involving a tractor trailer on I-75 in Bartow County on Sunday morning, the Georgia State Patrol said.

A car traveling northbound near mile marker 291 hit a pedestrian who was in the right lane around 5:45 a.m. When the motorist stopped to check on the pedestrian, a tractor trailer attempted to avoid them but ended up hitting the vehicle, the motorist and the pedestrian, authorities said.

The pedestrian, who had no identification with him, was killed. The body will be sent to the state crime lab for positive identification.

The motorist, Larry W. Hendrix of Cartersville, was taken to Cartersville Medical Center where he had surgery for a leg injury.

The tractor trailer driver, Patrick Allan Spencer, was uninjured. He crashed while swerving to avoid the pedestrian who'd been hit by the motorist, the GSP said. The pedestrian was then hit by other vehicles, the GSP said.

Authorities said no charges would be filed.
