Peachtree DeKalb Airport is expecting a “higher than usual surge” in anticipation of Super Bowl fans headed to Atlanta for the game.

Flight traffic is expected to increase Wednesday with peak travel periods between Friday, Feb. 1 and 4, according to airport officials.

The airports busiest times are: Saturday, Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 3 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again that day from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4.

Only one runway will be open the entire week, as the other runways will be closed for plane parking, officials said. Planes must reserve a time to land, park and take off.

The Federal Aviation Administration has also instituted flight restrictions during the Super Bowl from 3 to 11 p.m. There will also be military presence in the air, which is normal during big events.

More than 1,100 additional general aviation aircraft are expected to fly in and out of the metro Atlanta area in a three-day period for Super Bowl 53.

Peachtree DeKalb Airport is Georgia’s second busiest airport behind Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
