No one probably needs to tell you that shooting off a firearm for a celebration is a bad idea. Even so, The Peachtree Corners City Council recently heard a first read of an ordinance to prohibit hunting and celebratory gunfire within the city.

The amendment states it shall be unlawful to discharge any firearm, bow, crossbow, or any missile within the residential areas of Peachtree Corners. This section specifically states the new ordinance will not “prohibit any officer of the law from discharging a firearm in the performance of his/her duty, nor any citizen from discharging a weapon when lawfully defending person or property.”

Similar bans exist in most Gwinnett cities. A second read and public hearing will be held at the city’s next council meeting Tuesday at City Hall, 147 Technology Parkway, Suite 200.
