The eagle generally flies on Friday for many metro Atlanta working stiffs, but a Jonesboro woman and a Marietta man were already soaring by Wednesday with lottery winnings.

On Monday, Ellen Thomas of Jonesboro claimed a $1 million prize after winning Georgia Lottery’s Extreme Green instant game. Thomas bought her ticket at a Fuel Source Market on Jodeco Road in Stockbridge.

On Tuesday, Con Burgener of Marietta claimed a $743,004 prize after winning the Fantasy 5 drawing on Feb. 23. Burgener bought his ticket at a Citgo Food Mart on Roswell Road in Marietta. He let the lottery machine generate the lucky combination, 1-18-19-20-28.

Neither Thomas nor Burgener could be reached for comment.

The jackpot for Wednesday night's Powerball drawing was at $40 million, according to a Georgia Lottery spokeswoman, and Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot was at $108 million.
