Two teens are accused of coming up with a unique way of getting around the high price of gasoline – by trying to steal it from the vehicles of people while they slept in Gwinnett County, Channel 2 Action News reports.

A resident of the 3800 block of Rose Bay Lane in Loganville awoke early Friday morning to see the two males with what appeared to be a hose and a large red gas container outside next to his Jeep, according to a Gwinnett police report.

As the suspects fiddled with a flashlight, the resident turned on his front light, and the pair left.

The resident then watched the suspects go up to a box truck parked in the driveway of a neighbor’s home. They appeared to be trying to steal gas from it, police said. The resident called police.

Officers stopped a red 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck leaving the scene and arrested 19-year-old Joshua Christopher, of Monroe, and his 16-year-old companion. Officers also recovered eight red gas jugs, a red siphon hose and a hand pump from the bed of the truck.

When asked what they were doing with the jugs, Christopher told officers they were “doing gas and stuff,” the police report said.

Christopher was taken to Gwinnett County Jail, police said. The juvenile was released to his mother.

One alleged victim, Ellis Lyons, told Channel 2, "The economy right now is tough for everybody. It's hard on my family, it's hard on everyone, I know. But I would never go to thievery."
