Mayor Nancy Harris, city officials and Dreamland CEO Betsy McAtee welcomed business owners and citizens at a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday on the site of the former Parson’s Warehouse at 3578 West Lawrenceville Street in downtown Duluth.

The vacant, 1950’s era, 12,000 square foot dry and cold goods warehouse is undergoing a partial demolition and redevelopment into a corporately owned Dreamland BBQ franchise restaurant.

The 185-foot long and 70-foot wide concrete block structure and was once the center of distribution for 12 Parson’s grocery, hardware, and retail stores.

“This building holds many memories for our community” said Mayor Nancy Harris at a recent work session. “We (Duluth City Council) have carefully deliberated and studied for years how best to use this building. Dreamland BBQ will honor the remaining 5,000 square feet and add 1,500.”

Demolition of portions of the building fronting West Lawrenceville began this week. The renovated warehouse, to open mid-2015, will include outdoor dining and green space facing Duluth’s Town Green.
