An off-duty Temple police officer was killed Wednesday night in a motorcycle accident, authorities said.

In a post on the department's Facebook page, police said David Head was "an outstanding officer that cared for his community and loved what he did."

Head’s Facebook page says he was a husband and father of four from Villa Rica.

Details about the crash, including the location and the cause, were not immediately available.

A vigil is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Temple Police Department.

Temple is about 40 miles west of Atlanta.
