North Gwinnett Townhomes pump station to be decommissioned
Gwinnett commissioners on Feb. 2 authorized $300,000 for the decommissioning of the North Gwinnett Townhomes Pump Station, to low bidder, Mid-South Builders Inc.
The North Gwinnett Townhomes sewer pump station at the Sugar Hill Place Townhomes subdivision, 1136 Church Street in Sugar Hill is 30 years old. An analysis was done that indicates decommissioning this older pump station will have a 15-year payback.
The project includes approximately 1,200 linear feet of 8-inch diameter ductile iron sewer pipe and associated sewer appurtenances. The project involves installing a new gravity sewer to convey existing flow to an existing sewer on Spring Hill Drive and removing or demolishing the various components of the North Gwinnett Townhomes sewer pump station as required to decommission it.
The use of gravity sewer instead of this pump station and force main will reduce the risk of spills due to mechanical failures or force main corrosion.
