A North Forsyth High School student was arrested Wednesday for threatening students on Facebook, authorities said.

Justin T. Shafter was charged with one count of terroristic threats for posting threats against fellow students, Forsyth County Sheriff’s officials said.

A school resource officer was notified and contacted school officials, who in turn reached out to the sheriff’s office. Shafter, 17, was arrested and removed from the school, authorities said.

“At no time were any students ever in danger, “ Sheriff Ted Paxton said in a statement.

The arrest came days after three students were fatally shot Monday at a high school in Chardon, Ohio, about 30 miles east of Cleveland. T.J. Lane, 17, is in custody, accused of taking a Ruger .22-caliber pistol to school and shooting five teens.

Paxton referred to the Monday shooting when he pointed out that Forsyth County authorities took extra precautions in Wednesday’s incident. “In light of recent events nationwide, we take any hints of threats against students and our school system seriously,” he said.

Shafter is being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center. The investigation is continuing.
