Now that the former Lawrenceville Auto Parts at 15 South Clayton St. demolition is complete, additional funds are needed for grading the lot that will provide parking for the Lawrenceville Lawn.

Originally this was a contract for demolition only with no site grading planned. After the auto parts buildings and tanks were removed it was determined that the site grading should be revised to facilitate upper and lower parking areas. The lower area will function as VIP parking for the Lawn Stage area.

The original contractor, Complete Demolition Services LLC is not equipped to provide this degree of grading. The project approved Monday by the Lawrenceville City Council for $26,560 includes grading smooth the upper and lower parking area, installing five inches of grated aggregate base and installing concrete barriers like those used at the Public Works Facility.

The contract is awarded to A & S Paving Inc. of Lithonia.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
