Service at the new Tucker-Reid H. Cofer library will begin on Jan. 25, with a dedication ceremony the weekend before.

The dedication will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 23 at the new library, 5234 Lavista Road. DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis and other local dignitaries will be on hand for the ribbon cutting and tour of the new 25,000 square-foot library.

Tucker’s former library on Church Street closed in December, to prepare for moving to the new facility that is more than twice the size of the former branch.

The new facility will hold 82,000 volumes, have 42 public-access computers and special areas for children and teens.

Work on the new facility began last September and is part of a $54.5 million project to expand, renovate and add 13 libraries to the county.
