Just over two weeks before the start of classes, South Gwinnett High School has a new principal.

The Gwinnett County Board of Education appointed Monique Lee to the position during its Thursday meeting. Lee, who has master's and specialist's degrees in educational leadership, has served as an assistant principal at the Snellville school since 2007.

South Gwinnett's previous principal, Eric Thigpen, left the school last month after being tapped to become Gwinnett County Public Schools' Executive Director of Academic Support.

GCPS announced three other new principals last month: Scott Frandsen will lead Minor Elementary School; Elisa Brown will lead Stripling Elementary School; and Bob Burgess will lead the International Transition Center.

Classes start Aug. 8.
