After many months of construction along the Downtown Connector, the payoff for northbound motorists bound for Midtown comes Friday with the opening of a new ramp to 17th Street.
The opening of the ramp, set for 11 a.m. Friday, marks the completion of the $88.5 million 14th Street bridge replacement project that also added a southbound ramp from I-75/85 to 10th Street.
"The 14th Street bridge and the two new exit ramps on the Downtown Connector are really going to provide much better access to the Midtown area," state Department of Transportation Commissioner Vance C. Smith Jr. said.
"As with any new interstate ramp, traffic patterns may be a bit different for a few days until everyone gets used to it," said Persephone Goodwin, area engineer for the DOT. "We are asking motorists to be patient for the next couple of weeks until we make it through this learning curve."
