New construction codes approved
Gwinnett Commissioners have approved an updated version of the county’s Unified Development Ordinance. The revised construction codes ensure compliance with the Georgia State Minimum Standard Codes and allow for proper administration and enforcement of the state’s Unified Codes Act.
One change prevents contractors from continually renewing construction permits. Under the new codes, contractors may file for one extension and one renewal for each project. According to Planning and Development Director Bryan Lackey, “Contractors will have a limited time that a project can lag.”
Additional changes require contractors submit their state license to obtain permits and prevent contractors from transferring construction permits to one another. Old construction plans may no longer be reused. Architectural plans must be new or resealed within six months to obtain a construction permit. Information: www.gwinnettcounty.com.
