The new Cobb and Douglas Public Health Department annex at 1738 County Services Parkway in Marietta opened Thursday.

Cobb and Douglas Public Health also is the first public health agency in Georgia to receive accreditation from the Public Health Accreditation Board in May and among 75 of more than 3,000 in the nation to receive this certification.

The expanded Marietta Public Health Center, Building B, will provide improved clinical quality and service spaces for residents visiting such programs as Women, Infant and Child Nutrition (WIC), tuberculosis and children’s medical services.

The annex also will provide expanded workspace and capabilities for environmental health, epidemiology and health assessment, chronic disease prevention and emergency preparedness and response.

Renovations to the building were paid by the 2011 special purpose local option sales tax.
