An Atlanta man who shot an acquaintance during an argument at a Fourth of July party was convicted of murder and other felony charges Thursday.

A press release from the office of Fulton County District Attorney Paul L. Howard Jr.,  said 29-year-old Quentin Alexander killed Arturo Milton, 38, on July 3, 2010, in College Park.

The men became embroiled in an argument at the party, according to the press release, and Milton punched Alexander in the face, forcing him to fall down. Alexander got up, pulled a gun and shot Milton in the leg. While Milton was on the ground Alexander fired two more shots, hitting the victim in the neck and chest.

Alexander fled the scene but turned himself in five days later.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Jerry Baxter sentenced Alexander to life in prison.
