Two men trapped in the chilly waters of the Chattahoochee River Friday morning were rescued after a passing motorist spotted them clinging to their capsized fishing boat, Johns Creek officials confirmed.

The unidentified fishermen were in the water about 30 minutes, said City of Johns Creek spokeswoman Rosemary Taylor, on a morning when temperatures had dipped into the 40s. A motorist driving over Abbotts Bridge spotted the men and called 911.

Members of the Johns Creek Fire Department's Swift Water Rescue Team responded and pulled the two men from the water around 9:30 a.m., Taylor said. One of the men, in his late 50s, was taken to Emory Johns Creek Hospital with a mild case of hypothermia. The other, in his 20s, was treated and released, Taylor said.
