A South Carolina man will serve 90 days in jail for striking and killing a Georgia cyclist with his car last year.
The Aiken Standard reports Daniel W. Johnson, 42, was sentenced after pleading guilty last month to charges of involuntary manslaughter in the October 2010 crash.
Johnson, who was originally charged with reckless homicide, will serve his time on weekends.
Killed in the wreck was Fort Gordon orthopedic surgeon Maj. Matthew Burke, who died 128 days after the crash at age 38.
Prosecutors said Burke was riding with 14 other cyclists on a straight stretch of road on Beech Island Avenue at 6:40 p.m. The cyclists, who were following all applicable cycling laws, were riding in a line that extended approximately 100 feet, the Standard reports.
Johnson struck Burke and four other bicyclists who were transported to Augusta hospitals.
In addition to jail time, Johnson will be on probation for five years. He was also sentenced to community service, surrendered his license and is to have no contact with Burke's family.
Burke is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
