A mayoral candidate in Morrow remained in Grady Memorial Hospital on Tuesday night, recovering from serious injuries sustained in a weekend car crash caused by a hit-and-run driver, Channel 2 Action News reports.

Joseph “J.B.” Burke was hurt Sunday evening when a Cadillac Escalade heading north on Clearbrook Drive ran a stop sign and struck Burke’s Toyota, which was eastbound on Morrow Road.

The driver of the Escalade – which had been stolen earlier from Fulton County – jumped out and ran. The suspect remained at large Tuesday.

“It was pretty shocking,” Burke’s mother, Lou Tuttle, told Channel 2.

Burke sustained a concussion, broken ribs and an injured hand. Family members said he was making progress recovering, and they were hopeful he would be released from the hospital later this week.
