A line of rain and storms that soaked North Georgia overnight and early Monday has moved out, and cooler weather is settling in, according to Channel 2 Action News.

“Temperatures are already starting to cool this morning,” Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said. “Earlier we had some 60s around, but now the front has passed our area, the rain has moved out, we’re drying out and cooling down.”

After a near-record high of 71 degrees Sunday, Atlanta is expected to spend much of Monday in the 50s.

“Pretty much that’s where we’re going to be through the afternoon hours,” Deon said. “Temperatures not moving all that much throughout the day. Fifties will be the rule.”

Enjoy the mild temps and the sunshine because chilly weather is expected overnight, according to the latest forecast.

“By this evening, for your dinner plans, temps will drop back into the 40s,” Deon said. “And tonight, with a clear sky around, temps are going to turn quite cold.”

Parts of North Georgia will be waking up New Year’s Eve morning to temps in the 30s, according to Channel 2.

“Once you factor in the breezy winds and those colder temperatures, it’s going to feel like the freezing point heading out the door early on Tuesday morning in Atlanta,” Deon said.

Only a few traffic incidents are creating complications Monday, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

The Downtown Connector is moving slowly near Williams Street due to a crash, the Traffic Center reported. All lanes are blocked while authorities work to move the crash to the shoulder. The wreck is causing heavy delays.

In north Fulton County, Sandy Springs police are encouraging motorists to take alternate routes after a tree fell on power lines at River North Parkway and Riverside Drive. Authorities have not given an estimated clearance time.
