A woman and her 4-year-old daughter were expected Tuesday to survive their injuries after a head-on crash in DeKalb County over the weekend that killed two brothers in another car.
Police said the Chevrolet Corvette the brothers were riding in was traveling at a high rate of speed north on Buford Highway about 5:30 p.m. Sunday when the driver, Raul Velazquez, lost control and crossed into the southbound lanes.
The Corvette collided with an Acura driven by Denise Hudson, of Williamson.
Velazquez, 23, and his passenger, Abraham Velazquez, 22, both of Atlanta, were declared dead at the scene of the crash. At this time, there is no indication alcohol was a factor in the accident, according to DeKalb police Lt. Pamela Kunz.
The Rev. Gary Ledford of University Baptist Church, Atlanta, told Channel 2 Action News that the men were the sons of the church's Spanish-language pastor.
“Of course, the family has taken it very hard,” Ledford said. “We are one church family ... and when one family member hurts, we all hurt.”
Hudson, 44, and her daughter were taken in critical condition to Atlanta Medical Center and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta-Scottish Rite, respectively, police said.
Their medical conditions Tuesday were not immediately available, but both were expected to survive, Kunz said.
