A Japanese restaurant near the Mall of Georgia failed its recent health inspection, with officials reportedly finding a moldy ice machine and several foods being stored improperly.

Okame, located at 3290 Buford Drive, got a 56/U on the Thursday afternoon inspection.

According to the inspector's report, there was a "mold-like debris build up" in the ice machine in the restaurant's main kitchen, and sushi rice was being kept at the incorrect temperature.

In addition, raw egg, unwashed avocados and unwashed limes were being stored above ready-to-eat sauces, officials said. Raw chicken was also being stored above other ready-to-eat foods.

Other reported violations included a lack of paper towels at the kitchen's hand sink, food being stored on the floor of the walk-in freezer and employees "eating personal food items on table above customer food items."

Two phone numbers listed for Okame were disconnected Friday.

A follow-up inspection will be completed within 10 days of Thursday's failing evaluation.
