A spacious park in East Cobb that for years has been the site of events for the area's Jewish community is on the block.

The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta is selling Shirley Blumenthal Park, a 32-acre site on Post Oak Tritt Road. The decision is part of the MJCCA's strategic plan to better serve the community and also due to changing demographics of the area's Jewish community.

The MJCCA has owned the property since the late 1980s. The park was one of the locations for the organization's annual East Cobb summer camp and includes a gymnasium and pre-school building. It was also the site of many community and sports activities. The Sunshine pre-school, which had operated there, was relocated to Temple Kol Emeth.

CEO Gail Luxenberg said the MJCCA summer camp will be held this year at Zaban Park in Dunwoody.

The park was originally designed to serve young families and their children, said Steven Cadranel, incoming president.

"Me and countless families and children made their way through Shirley Blumenthal Park’s preschools, camps and sports facilities over the years but as the community’s needs have changed, we have an obligation as good stewards to change with them," Cadranel said. "While I will certainly miss the park, I’m excited about the resources it will provide us to better serve our East Cobb families today."

Luxenberg said the center will now be able to broaden its programming and offer youth different choices in activities.

The property is listed with Jones Lang LaSalle.
