The 57-year-old woman with dementia reported missing from Cobb County was found dead Thursday on the back porch of a vacant DeKalb County home about 30 miles away.
Annie L. Smith was reported missing Wednesday from the Ashley Manor Personal Care Home in the 500 block of Dickson Road in Marietta, police said. A Mattie's Call was issued for Smith late Wednesday.
While investigators searched for the woman Thursday morning in Cobb County, the woman's body was located by a resident of a DeKalb street.
A body matching Smith's description was found in the 1400 block of Hosea Williams Drive around 10 a.m. Thursday, Pat Bailey, director of the DeKalb County medical examiner's office, told the AJC. A neighbor noticed the body and called police, Bailey said.
"We have reason to believe this is the woman missing from Marietta," Bailey said.
Late Thursday, investigators positively identified the body as Smith, Officer Mike Bowman with Cobb County police said.
Smith suffered from asthma and dementia, police previously said. A cause of death has not yet been determined.
