Authorities have identified the man's body found last week in southwest Atlanta inside the trunk of a burning car.
The body belongs to Gregory Vernon Harris, of Covington, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday.
Police earlier this week said that the burned-out car, an Infiniti M35, was registered to Harris.
Harris, 49, was reported missing on the evening of July 13 in Newton County, Atlanta Police homicide unit commander Lt. Paul Guerrucci told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"We are working with Newton County [Sheriff's Office] to learn more about this case," Guerrucci said.
According to information obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution from the Newton County Sheriff's Office, Harris was reported missing by his sister Friday evening around 8 p.m., and has been the subject of an ongoing investigation.
The missing persons report suggests that Harris may have had some trouble when he left his home.
"His personal items [were] thrown around inside his residence," the report reads.
The car was taken, with the body still inside, to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office Saturday after police finished investigating the scene, and authorities have confirmed that the corpse is that of a male.
However, authorities have not said what the cause of death is.
