Midtown streets reopen after suspicious package investigation

July 10, 2012

Streets were reopened just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after a suspicious package was cleared in Midtown, Atlanta police said.

Police were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. to investigate a suspicious package call at the intersection of Peachtree Street and 15th Street, Atlanta police spokesman Officer John Chafee said. SWAT was requested after officers located a black suitcase near the sidewalk.

During the incident, Peachtree and 15th streets were shut down for approximately one block in each direction, Chafee said.

Traffic was disrupted through the evening rush hour.

SWAT examined the package and determined that it was not a threat, Chafee said.
