WellStar Health System will become a tobacco free environment effective Jan. 1. After that date, no tobacco use will be permitted anywhere on WellStar property. “As healthcare providers, we know the detrimental effects of tobacco use and second hand smoke," said Reynold J. Jennings, WellStar's CEO. "We believe we must set an example for our community.”  WellStar employees will be offered resources to help them give up tobacco. The system is also adding processes to assist patients who smoke to help alleviate nicotine withdrawal problems. Georgians who participate in the state’s food stamp program will soon see a change in when they receive their monthly benefit.

Starting in November, the state will use a new formula to determine when people will receive benefits. The new process will not change the amount of food stamps, and the date will still fall between the 5th and the 14th of each month. Benefits will now be distributed based on the last two digits of the client identification number for the head of household. Learn more at www.dhs.georgia.gov. MISTY WILLIAMS
