Metro news for Tuesday

The Fulton commission is set to approve agreements Wednesday with DeKalb, Coffee and Gilmer counties to house inmates. Last year, the county spent $6.3 million keeping its daily jail population below the federally-mandated 2,500 cap.

The agreement with DeKalb will be for up to 100 inmates at $67 per inmate per day, with Gilmer for up to 20 inmates at $35 per inmate per day and with Coffee for up to 50 inmates at $34 per inmate per day. The county also has agreements with the South Fulton Regional Jail, Alpharetta and Hall and Oconee counties. JOHNNY EDWARDS

MARTA is hearing public comment this week on its plan to raise fares by 50 cents, and monthly passes by from $68 to $95.

All hearings start at 7 p.m. with a community exchange at 6 p.m. They cover the agency's proposed budget for the fiscal year that starts in July, including service improvements. The hearings Monday night are at the South Fulton Service Center and the Fulton County Government Center. Tuesday’s hearings are at the DeKalb County Maloof Auditorium at 1300 Commerce Drive in Decatur, and the North Fulton Service Center at 7741 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.
