Motorists wanting a second chance at picking a new state license plate can now vote again.

The Georgia Department of Revenue on Monday reopened voting for the next state tag after miscommunication over "In God We Trust" scuttled the original contest.

Several proposed designs featured the phrase where a county name normally would appear, leading many to believe that the tag could feature the phrase by default. Instead, the designs were simply showing what the plate would look like with an optional sticker already available.

But the snafu was significant enough that Revenue Commissioner Doug MacGinnitie and Gov. Nathan Deal decided to re-do the vote. Cast your ballot at: https://etax.dor.ga.gov/TagContest.aspx

A group of researchers at Emory University and partner institutions has received a $26 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to work on developing an effective HIV/AIDS vaccine. The five-year project will be conducted primarily at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center at Emory. “Developing a safe and effective preventive HIV/AIDS vaccine is still a critical part of the fight against this challenging disease that affects more than 30 million people worldwide,” said Eric Hunter, an Emory researcher who will lead the project. Georgia high school graduates earn an average of $ 8,089 more each year compared to dropouts, according to the Alliance for Excellent Education, a Washington-based advocacy organization. About 1.3 million U.S. students dropped out from the class of 2010. Reducing the dropouts by half could create and extra 3,700 jobs in Georgia. Information: http://www.all4ed.org. JAIME SARRIO
