Mercer University President William Underwood announced Friday that the college's current provost will step down at the end of the year and a different senior administrator will take over as the school's chief academic officer.
Provost Wallace Daniel, a noted Russian historian, will return to the college faculty as a a history professor. D. Scott Davis, senior vice provost for research and dean of graduate studies, will become provost Jan. 1.
Mercer is based in Macon and has sites in Atlanta and Savannah. LAURA DIAMOND

Gail Luxenberg has been appointed the new executive director and CEO of the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta.
Luxenberg begins the new post on Dec. 1.
She replaces Howard Hyman, who has been interim CEO for the past 15 months. Hyman will rejoin the center's governance board.
Luxenberg holds a bachelor's degree in Middle Eastern studies and an MBA in marketing and organizational behavior from the University of Chicago. Most recently, she served as executive director of the Jewish Vocational Service in Chicago. SHELIA POOLE

The annual Toys for Tots campaign, sponsored by United Way and the U.S. Marine Corps, kicks off Nov. 25 at area Public Super Markets and the downtown United Way office.
New, unwrapped may be dropped off at any metro Atlanta Publix Super Market in metro Atlanta or at United Way through Dec. 23.
