Alpharetta police K-9 Mattis still has a long road to recovery, but his fans can get a closer glimpse of his progress at the city's Night Out at Avalon on Thursday.
You might recall the Alpharetta police officer's nearly fatal encounter earlier this month, when he pursued two suspects accused of stealing dozens of cell phones, credit and debit cards, according to police.
During the pursuit, Mattis and the two suspects, Courtney Blake and Enock Louis, unknowingly leaped over a 30-foot wall, resulting in multiple injuries to the 3-year-old German shepherd, according to police. Mattis was taken to the Animal Emergency Center of North Fulton shortly after the incident where he was treated for heavy internal bleeding and liver lacerations.
Police officials said at that time Mattis was expected to make a full recovery, but that could take a month.
The city's public safety department released a new video on its Facebook page Tuesday of Mattis' Oct 10 release from the animal hospital. The video shows Mattis running into the arms of his handler, Officer Mark Tappan.

Residents can find Mattis and other officers in Alpharetta's K-9 unit at the Oct. 20 event. The annual event ties into National Night Out, which city officials say is a way to strengthen relations between law enforcement and the public.
Alpharetta Night Out at Avalon runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and features live demonstrations from the city's different public safety agencies.
