Statesboro police have ruled the death of a 19-year-old woman found dead Tuesday afternoon as a homicide by strangulation.

The body of Brandie Danielle Davis, 19, was found shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the Campus Crossing apartment community in Statesboro, Ga, said police.

WTOC-TV of Savannah said Davis is from McDonough.

The apartment complex is near Georgia Southern University, but Davis is not a student there, WTOC-TV said.

Davis' body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Savannah for the autopsy.

Detectives from the Statesboro Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division are actively invsetigating the situation and said it appears to be an isolated incident.
