The McDonough City Council voted unanimously at its Feb. 17 regular meeting to adopt a resolution supporting locally-established building standards for residential dwellings, in opposition to a bill under consideration in the Georgia General Assembly that would preempt local control over such standards.

The move is similar to what Henry County government as well as the county’s other cities have done. It was noted during the council’s discussions that the Georgia Municipal Association had requested such action from its members, and that the proposed state initiative would restrict the ability of municipalities to dictate design standards within their own communities.
