The Fayette County Board of Commissioners chose its newest member to be its 2017 chairman at a called meeting Thursday night.

Eric Maxwell, who recently won the District 1 seat formerly held by David Barlow, was elected chairman 3-2 after nominations for former chairman Charles Oddo and Randy Ognio failed. Ognio was then unanimously chosen for vice chairman.

Maxwell, a lawyer and former judge, previously served on the commission from 2007 to 2010. Maxwell, Oddo and Ognio were all sworn in to their new terms by Probate Court Judge Ann S. Jackson.
