Metro Atlanta's transit authority plans to present its new federally funded solar canopy at the Laredo bus facility in Decatur.

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, or MARTA, in 2009 received a $10.8 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration to complete the project. MARTA says it is the largest solar canopy in Georgia. It is set to be unveiled Friday.

The transit system says the project has created new "green-collar" jobs in the metro Atlanta area and is generating clean, renewable solar power to help operate the bus facility.

The federal grant for the project was provided as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's Transit Investments for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction, or TIGGER, program.
