Two Marietta police officers have been promoted to the rank of sergeant.
Jared Rakestraw and Jayson Duncan were formally promoted Monday during a pinning ceremony held at Police Department headquarters.
Police chief Dan Flynn said candidates for promotion are considered based on their experience, competence, training, testing and a “history of excellent job performance.”
“It is a personal honor and pleasure to work among so many modern day awesome American heroes,” he said.
Rakestraw joined Marietta police in 2010. He served as a patrol officer before he was assigned to the department’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) Unit in 2014. He’s also a member of the department’s Critical Response and Peer Counseling teams and serves as a back-up department spokesman.
