The Marietta City Council will hold a special called meeting at 5:15 p.m. Monday in City Hall Council Chambers, 205 Lawrence St. to adopt the general fund millage rate of 2.788, which is the same as last year’s rate.
For the seventh year in a row, the city received less property tax revenue than it did in 2008 before the economic recession.
Before adopting the millage rate, the city council held three public hearings, as required by Georgia law, to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the rate.
In June, the city council adopted a balanced budget without raising taxes, establishing new fees or reducing services.
“The budget is balanced because of revenue the city has received from growth in the local economy, housing and businesses,” Budget Manager Lori Duncan said.
The city’s overall FY 2016 budget is $339.7 million, which includes $52.7 million for the general fund budget.
The undesignated reserve balance is about $15.7 million.
