The Marietta Board of Education will consider maintaining the same millage rate of 17.97 although it is 7.51 percent over the rollback millage rate.

Residents are invited to the last two of three public hearings on this tax increase at 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. July 18 at the Central Office Building, 250 Howard St., Marietta.

This millage rate is the same as it has been since 2014.

The school board’s budget requires a millage rate higher than the rollback millage rate since there has been an increase in the fair market value of prices on properties that have sold recently in the county.

For that reason, Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held on the increase even though the school board’s millage rate remains unchanged.
