CPR administered by the manager of a Gwinnett County McDonald's wasn't enough to save the teenager shot outside his restaurant Monday night, police said.
Gwinnett County police responded to the McDonald's at 2443 Hamilton Mill Road near Dacula around 8:45 p.m., Cpl. Michele Pihera said. An officer found the restaurant's manager administering CPR to 19-year-old Lawrenceville resident Kyree Shakur Smith, who'd been shot inside a car in the parking lot.
The manager and one of the responding police officers continued trying to resuscitate Smith until paramedics arrived, Pihera said. The teen was eventually taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville and later died.
According to an incident report obtained Tuesday afternoon, a witness who was in the drive-thru when Smith was shot told police he heard gunfire before seeing "the victim's black car come over the curb and up the small embankment."
The witness told police he then saw a red Nissan Sentra drive off behind the nearby Publix. A description of the suspect or suspects was not available Tuesday.
Another teenager was in the vehicle with Smith when he was shot but was uninjured. Pihera said detectives "are looking into the possibility" that the shooting was drug-related.
No further information was released.
