Atlanta police were looking Friday for an armed man who fled the campus of a private school in northwest Atlanta after being confronted in the parking lot.

Greater Atlanta Adventist Academy on Hamilton E. Holmes Drive was on lockdown for more than an hour near the beginning of the day, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The man, who was looking into cars in the parking lot, pulled out a gun when confronted by the principal and a parent, then ran away, police said.

“When questioned from a distance, the person displayed a weapon and fled the property,” Principal Johnny Holliday told Channel 2.

He said parents were informed about the incident Friday afternoon.
