A man wanted in connection with a 1991 murder in the Bronx has been arrested in Cobb County, according to Sgt. Dana Pierce.
Raoul Desmin Cooper, 38, was arrested Wednesday night in a vacant parking lot near the intersection of Floyd and Nickajack roads in Mableton, according to police.
New York City police had previously issued a warrant for Cooper, and suspected he was in Cobb, Pierce said. In the 1991 homicide, the victim was shot in the face during a street robbery.
In January, Cobb police spoke with Cooper about an alleged incidence of child neglect. The investigator wanted to again speak with Cooper, Pierce said.
Cooper, who was living in Austell, agreed to meet the investigator at an abandoned parking lot, Pierce said. When the suspect arrived, New York City police and Cobb police and a SWAT team were waiting for him.
"He really didn't know what was coming," Pierce said. "However he knew that he needed to speak with police and authorities about it."
Cooper is being held in the Cobb County jail without bond, according to his book-in report. He will be extradited to New York.
"It really is a cold case that has progressed since '91," Pierce said. "It brings closure to this victim's family and friends."
