A man wanted by the U.S. Secret Service surrendered peacefully after a standoff lasting more than two hours Friday afternoon in Gwinnett County.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, told police he had weapons and was willing to use them on law enforcement, Cpl. Edwin Ritter with Gwinnett County police said.
The man barricaded himself in a Norcross hotel room when officers attempted to serve an arrest warrant on a fraud charge, Ritter said. He was threatening to kill himself, Ritter said.
The U.S. Secret Service tried to serve the warrant to the man in his hotel room at the Norcross Suites, located at 6650 Bay Circle off Jones Mill Road, Ritter said. A Gwinnett County SWAT team was called in to assist with the standoff, police said.
The man was taken into custody shortly before 5 p.m.
