Atlanta police are trying to determine if the recent theft of $180,000 from the Walmart on Howell Mill Road was an inside job.

Channel 2 Action News reported Monday that the money was stolen from the store's safe around 2 a.m. on Feb. 19.

According to Channel 2, police said that the theft was captured on a security camera. The suspect, who was wearing sunglasses and a hat, walked into the store and went to the safe in the customer service area, opened it and left with $180,000.

The station reported that the suspect used a master key to open a Walmart safety deposit room, then opened the combination lock on the safe.

Atlanta police Sgt. Curtis  Davenport told the station that the thief "is suspected to be familiar with the location. We don't know who he is."

Eleven days earlier, a woman was beaten during an attempted robbery in the parking lot of that Walmart.

The victim in that incident told police that she had just cashed a $4,000 tax refund check and was walking to her car with her 4-year-old daughter when she noticed the suspect, John Wilson,  following her.

As soon as she put her daughter in the car, she was accosted by Wilson, who started punching her and trying to rob her, police said.

A witness flagged down an officer, who arrested Wilson and charged him with robbery, aggravated assault, cruelty to children, entering an auto and obstruction of a police officer.
