A man was shot and wounded in a possible attempted carjacking outside a Wells Fargo Bank in southwest Atlanta on Monday afternoon, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The incident happened shortly before 3 p.m. on the 2200 block of Cascade Road Southwest.

"I was standing outside smoking a cigarette, so all of a sudden we heard 'Pow! Pow!' ... and they was like 'Look at all this shooting,'" one witness, Jay Chandler, told Channel 2. Later, he added, "We saw two .45 [caliber] shell casings on the ground."

Witnesses said they saw two cars flee the scene.

"They quickly sped away. Yeah, they went right down through there," Chandler said.

Police soon swarmed the area.

"That's the fastest I have ever seen police come. They were here within three minutes," Chandler said.

In an email to the AJC, Atlanta police Officer John Chafee said, "An adult male was shot in the buttock, possibly the result of an attempted carjacking. He was transported to the hospital alert, conscious [and] breathing."

Police told Channel 2 that the victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. The man's name was not disclosed.

The incident was being investigated Monday night, police said.
