A  man was injured  when fire broke out at his Snellville home, one of two early morning fires in Gwinnett Tuesday.

Firefighters arrived at the split-level home in the 4000 block of Valley Brook Road at 3:32 a.m. and found heavy flames and smoke at the rear of the home, said Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Eric Eberly.

Firefighters found the homeowner outside of the burning house and treated him for "moderate" burns, Eberly said. The man was transported to Eastside Medical Center in Snellville for further treatment. His identity was not immediately available.

Crews were able to quickly control the blaze and rescued two adult dogs and two puppies from inside the home, Eberly said.

The homeowner told firefighters that he awoke to find a fire in the kitchen; he said his wife and two children were out of town.

Eberly described damage to the home as "moderate."

He said one firefighter experienced dizziness from the heat and was treated on the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

About an hour later, firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1300 block of Monfort Road in Lawrenceville, Eberly said.

The house was fully involved when crews arrived, but they were able to keep the fire from spreading to other homes, Eberly said. No one was injured.
