A man is in the hospital and a woman is in police custody after a late-morning shooting in Kennesaw.

The shooting happened about 11 a.m. in the 2200 block of Mountain Springs Court, in a neighborhood off Jiles Road, Kennesaw police spokesman Scott Luther told the AJC.

The man was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and was in surgery Monday afternoon. He was in “guarded condition,” Luther said.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the house and had been there for about an hour, Luther told the AJC on Monday afternoon.

"Investigators are gathering what they can," he said.

Police are not releasing names of the man and woman. Luther said it appears the two are married but they have different last names. Police are still trying to determine the motive.

The woman has been unwilling to give a statement to investigators, Luther said.

Neighbor Jameson Bradfield said nothing like this has happened in the eight years he's lived in the neighborhood.

"I can see the house from my front porch," he told AM 750 and now 95.5 FM News/Talk WSB. "That's very disturbing, and it shakes me up a little bit to be honest with you."
