Man found dead in parking lot at Chamblee restaurant

Chamblee police have identified a man found dead at a restaurant parking lot on Saturday.

Police said Yannick Medjo-Medjo, 34, of Stone Mountain, was found early Saturday outside of the Mad Italian restaurant on Savoy Drive near Interstate 285. Medjo-Medjo, who had a gunshot wound to the torso, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The shooting, however, may not have happened at the restaurant, police told Channel 2 Action News. Witnesses told police a blue SUV, possibly a Ford Expedition, was seen speeding away.

Restaurant manager Jeremy Brown and an employee found the body. "I don't think anybody should have to suffer what that man suffered this morning," Brown told Channel 2, still shaken up by the situation.

Crime tape surrounded the scene as investigators looked at possible evidence left behind, including sunglasses and shoes.

"We're asking for the public's help, any information they can give us," said Chamblee Police Capt. Michael Beller.

Brown, the restaurant's owner, tried to reassure the public. "We just want people to know it's still a safe place to come and bring their family and have a good meal," he said.
