A resident who left an Atlanta health rehabilitation center Saturday afternoon was found dead Sunday morning at a MARTA station.
The man, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office as 55-year-old Jeffrey Griffin, was found by a police officer on Decatur Street, Sgt. Curtis Davenport, Atlanta police spokesman, told the AJC.
Griffin was a resident at Crestview Health & Rehabilitation Center on Springdale Road, according to Denise Simpson, spokeswoman for the Grady Health System. Griffin left the center Saturday afternoon, but did not tell staff members he was leaving, Simpson said.
"The staff became aware that the resident was missing, initiated a search throughout the facility and neighborhood, and ultimately, notified Atlanta police," Simpson said in a statement released Monday evening. "On Sunday morning, December 11, the resident was found deceased at the MLK Marta station."
Simpson said Crestview staff members are cooperating with police and conducting an internal probe into the incident. Simpson told the AJC she did not know the center's protocol regarding residents leaving.
Autopsy results are pending, but investigators do not suspect foul play in Griffin's death, police said.
