Authorities have identified a man who died after a police standoff at a townhouse complex in Dekalb early Saturday, according to police and Channel 2 Action News.

The man has been identified as Sage Happ-Williams, 29.  The incident at the Royal Towne Park complex on Regal Path Lane began around 5 a.m., when residents said they heard gunshots.

By 6 a.m. DeKalb police and SWAT teams had established a command post at the complex.

Police told Channel 2 that neighbors said the man was in his 20s and had a history of mental issues. They said he came to the door with a long-barreled gun and wearing a bullet-proof vest.

Residents said the man argued with police and refused to come out.

"He went back inside and outside several times, and that's when officers fired upon the subject," DeKalb Police Maj. Lionel Higdon told Channel 2.

The standoff lasted more than fours, and some residents were evacuated. The complex is between Decatur and Avondale Estates.
